Chamber Heroes
Hero is a big word. According to Webster's, a hero is:
"a man of great strength and courage, favored by the gods and in part descended from them, often regarded as half-god and worshiped after his death; any man
admired for his courage, nobility, or exploits, especially in war... "
Seems old Webster was a bit of a sexist, but beyond that, his definition sounds like many of our Chamber volunteers - those hearty souls who go above and beyond
for the good of our central Minnesota businesses and our organization.
Chamber Heroes come in lots of shapes, sizes and genders. They do big things and small. They step in without being asked. They readily give of their time, money,
intellect, skills and abilities. They have a passion for business and for fun. I believe they are, in fact, descended from the gods.
This year Chamber Heroes have been ready, on a moment's notice, to travel to St. Paul as advocates for the expansion of our St. Cloud Civic Center. They stand
ready in the Capitol's hallways to talk to any representative or senator who will listen to our tale of woe about the $4 million hole the State of Minnesota
helped us dig in our downtown. They travel to press conferences that may be canceled unexpectedly, stand in the shadows of the limelight, and show support while
others speak.
Chamber Heroes rise early every Friday morning to tote sound equipment and meeting supplies all over town so Chamber Connection regulars are assured of their
weekly "fix” of networking with colleagues and friends.
They direct traffic and hoist equipment at the Central Minnesota Farm Show. They stand ready with top hats, black jackets and big smiles to welcome members at
nearly every event the Chamber hosts.
Chamber Heroes keep their eyes and ears open for new membership prospects, making introductions and ensuring Membership Sales Specialist Wendy Franzwa receives a
warm welcome from new contacts.
Chamber Heroes keep their phone lines open when I have issues and concerns on which I need advice and counsel. They answer, "Sure, I have time. . .” when I call.
They buy lunch and provide input and guidance in important decisions.
Chamber Heroes laugh and smile a lot.
They say, "Sure, I can do that... "
"I'll make that call... "
"You can count on me..."
"I think you should consider..."
"Be careful..."
"Let me buy you a beer..."
Our Chamber is blessed with many Heroes. They lead and serve on our committees, govern on our Board of Directors and serve on our dedicated staff team. They are
special and make my job fulfilling and fun.
Thank you to my Chamber Heroes. I admire you for your courage, nobility, and exploits... especially in times of war.
